Consolation Prize
Oct. 23rd, 2011 11:50 amWhile I did not get to go to O.V.F.F. this year, that meant I was home to go to Halloween Town. The camp where this is held is a half mile from my house, so I walked there in cloak & kilt with glow-lights attached to my walking stick.
There were about 20 - 30 cabins decorated to different levels of scary by local companies & community groups. A local theater group “The Village Players” had one of the scariest: People you can’t see yelling at you through cloth walls, and the sounds of power tools.
One of the cleverest was by “Stone School” they had two windows each covered except for a 3 inch diameter hole. A one-handed pirate then encouraged people to reach in to get their treat, or maybe trick. One window had a bowl of candy inside; the other had a bowl of pumpkin guts, and sometimes people inside the building would touch your hand when you reached in.
There was a lazer-light display behind one of the buildings which was cool.
My favorite by far was a group of teen-girls doing tableaus along a wooded path. Their faces were painted ashen color and they were wearing white gowns. One had a veil like a bride; a second held a two-headed baby (doll); the third sat behind a gilded picture frame, and the fourth was uphill from the trail playing eerie music on a violin by torchlight.
All together it was quite the event.

About april fools
Apr. 2nd, 2010 09:40 amI've had a number of friends tell me that they don't like April Fools Posts, so I created a filter to block those who don't wish to see fictitious posts.
If you are able to see my post yesterday (about getting a job fixing computers in prison) and don't wish to see fictitious posts, then comment here and I will remove you from the "Liar's Day" Filter

Quote Patty: "Try to catch snowflakes on your tongue. It’s fun."
Lucy Van Pelt: "It’s too early. I never eat December snowflakes. I always wait until January."
It snowed yesterday and unlike Miss Van Pelt my tradition is to catch a snowflake on my tongue during the first snowfall of the season, when they are freshest. This is not as easy as it sounds.
First challenge: a person's mouth is quite warm, so smaller snowflakes will sometimes melt before hitting your tongue.
Second challenge: the heat rising out of a mouth creates a thermal which tends deflect snowflakes away from the mouth.
To deal with these challenges it helps to breath in while sticking out the tongue, but breathing in too hard will cause the snowflake to hit the back of the throat instead the tongue, which is not nearly as pleasant an experience.
The final challenge in catching snowflakes is patience. Bobbing and weaving to catch a snowflake seldom works, and is often counterproductive. It is best to wait and let the snowflake come to you.
Final note in case anyone is curious. I did not detect any difference in the flavor of an Illinois snowflake compared to a Massachusetts snowflake.

Annual National Procrastinators Meeting
Apr. 15th, 2009 01:31 pmWill be held today at Post Offices all around the United States.
Many USPS offices will remain open until midnight so that people can attend.
I myself decided to be an early procrastinator and dropped off my state taxes paperwork at lunch.
For those keeping score, between Fed & State Taxes, I owe $451.00 (My current employeer has me underwithheld.)
Remember whoever mails their taxes closest to midnight without going over wins.
