Gaming Weekend

I had a very nice time at WPI gaming weekend. I only went Saturday and Sunday this year. I played 3 new games

Puzzle Strike Which is like a whole bunch of things, except it uses chips instead of cards.

Endeavor An exploration game, where you establish trade routes to other continents. In a step unusual for me I chose an "attack other players" strategy. I did o.k. for a first time playing.

Container: Second Shipment To me this game is a simplified McMulti. I had never played Container before, the other three players had not played the Second Shipment expansion before, this put us on relatively even footing. In the end I won (163, 158, 157, 148) a 15 point spread on an over 600 (total) points game is very close.

I also played Fineto, Galaxy Trucker, Puerto Rico, Kingsburg, and several games of Dominion

Borders "Dutch auction" week 7

On August 31rd the SF/F section discount was 66% off
On September 7th the SF/F section discount is 60% off
"But wait that's worse" I hear you say. The 66% off was a last-day-of-the-month special, the signage in the store was 50% off, with an additional discount.

In the SF/F section there were 8 shelves with 7 “risers” each (56 sections).
Books filled 14 sections today. That comes out to about 25% inventory, with 40% cost, so sales are exceeding discount. There were also signs posted today which said Final 4 Days, so this location is closing Saturday.

Today I picked up
Spectyr by Philippa Ballantine for $3.20. I was suprised to find this book. I had not spotted it on my previous perusals, and was not expecting it to be there because it was a July release. It must have come in on their last delivery. I would have purchaced it weeks ago if I had known it was there.

Den of Thieves by David Chandler for $3.20. Never heard of it before but I'm willing to try a new author at these prices.

Kraken by China Miéville (Hardcover) for $10.40.
