I made it to my 1st MassFilc meeting in a year. It was nice to see there were a couple of new faces. Phoebe even brought instruments (A fiddle, a bouzouki, and a mouth harp).

I performed
  • The Kid and The Dog are with Me
  • Ship of Stone
  • One by One
  • Blowing the Winter In (There was a request for cool weather songs)
  • Closer To Filk
  • I'm going to go back there someday
Amazing that after being gone a year I actually had some new material.

Someone there was listing all the songs performed.

Of course I ate a bit more than I should, 1715 calories for the day. In hindsight I could have skipped those pretzels. On the other hand I have no regrets for enjoying the IBC Black Cherry Soda (at 180 callories per bottle).

Exercise this week:
I walked 11 miles over 5 days, I only swam 2 times, and did not kayak. I spent some time helping friends move. I did complete Day 5 thru 11 on the 28 Day Yoga Exercise Plan (7 half-hour yoga sessions).

My average calories per day this week were 1596,
with a range of 1549 - 1630. With some significant WAG-estimates on Sunday.

My weight last week was 167 lbs. (76 kilograms)
My weight today is 167 lbs. (76 kilograms)

I'm not suprised that I simply "held" for a week. I'm actually rounding to the nearest pound, so I went from 167.4 last week to 166.8 this week. As I lose weight, I get closer to my target calories per day. I'm not going to lower my daily calorie intake, so that means either I increase my activity, or accept slower weight loss. While I did more Yoga, I did less swimming, so I didn't really increase my activity last week.

Exercise this week:
I walked 10 miles over 5 days, however I only swam 2 times, and did not kayak. (It rained quite a bit this week.). I did complete Day 1 thru 4 on the 28 Day Yoga Exercise Plan.

My average calories per day this week were 1595,
with a range of 1521 - 1748. Some calculating errors early in the week led to some higher than expected totals for the day, but I was able to balance it out over the week.

I am now able to fit into Waist size 32 pants (Standing up, there is significant "muffintop" when I sit down). I don't think I'm going to pop any of the buttons I fixed at my current size.

My weight last week was 169 lbs. (77 kilograms)
My weight today is 167 lbs. (76 kilograms)

I have lost 16 lbs. in 2 months. I had not been expecting to maintain the 2 lbs. a week average this long. I've only got 8 lbs. to go to reach my target weight.

Today we went to the storage unit to get a small bookshelf for my mother. While we were there my mother said "Do you see anything else that you need?" So I looked and found a bin with my clothes in it. Specifically the bin with my 32 waist pants.

Cut for those tired of hearing about my Ex )

One of the reasons I decided to pay attention to my diet and exercise is to fit into my 32 waist pants again. I brought them home from storage today. I tried a couple of pairs on. I was able to fit into them. Admitedly they fit better standing up than sitting down, but I am making progress. I even made the effort to sew the buttons back on three pairs of pants.

I was rummaging through my boxes of books today (looking for stuff to post on Paperback Swap) and I came across my copy of

Richard Hittleman's YOGA
28 Day Exercise Plan

Over 500 Step-By-Step Photographs!

Originally published the year I was born, I bought it back in 1997 to teach me Yoga. This was when I was still working at the bookstore, couldn't afford classes, and I found Yoga videos went to fast to learn the basics.

Of course all the step-by-step photos were of a woman, but I decided that I could overlook this. I have started the book several times, but I don't think I have ever accomplished all 28 days. I think this will be a fun addition to my current exercise regime.

Exercise this week:
I walked 10 miles over 5 days, swam 5 times, did yoga twice, and kayaked twice.

My average calories per day this week were 1587,
with a range of 1520 - 1632.

My waist is now down to a full 34

My weight last week was 170 lbs. (77 kilograms)
My weight today is 169 lbs. (77 kilograms)

I am Sooo happy to be out of the 170's, I can't remember the last time I was down to 169. My body has adjusted to the increased activity, I was afraid that this week would be the same weight as last week (it wouldn't have stopped me, but plateauing for a week is frustrating).

And the swimming is easy...

Today's adventure in Kayaking was in an Old Town Loon 111 Classic, Sunrise color. (Stats: 11'1" length; 28" width; 45 lbs. weight; 275 lbs. weight capacity)
It slices through the water much easier than the Escape, and sits much lower.

The temps have been high this past weekend, so I have been swimming 3 times, walked 6.5 miles, and did Yoga once so far.

Exercise this week:
I walked 11 miles over 5 days, swam twice, did yoga once, and kayaked once.

My average calories per day this week were 1609,
with a range of 1572 - 1639. I was generous with myself keeping the average on the upper side of 1600.

My weight last week was 173 lbs. (78 kilograms)
My weight today is 170 lbs. (77 kilograms)

This means I am over half way to my weight loss goal (I have lost 13 lbs.so far, I have 11 lbs.to go.)
I really think it was the swimming that made the difference this week.

I went kayaking.
A little over a year ago my mother won a Yellow Colbra Escape Kayak in a church raffle

Stats: 10'2" length; 31" width; 34 lbs. weight; 240 lbs. weight capacity

Today was my first day trying it out. I walked 1.25 miles to where the launch is. My mother drove down, bringing the paddle. We took turns paddling around Purity Lake. Afterwards I walked over to the beach to cool off swimming. The water was lovely. From there I walked home. I spent roughly an hour and a half outdoors.

The swimming is having a measurable effect on my getting in shape. While my waist is shrinking slowly, my neck measurement is going down nicely. Yesterday I was able to button a 15 1/2 collar shirt which has not fit in over a year.

Exercise

On Friday I went for my 2 mile walk, but with a detour.

Down at the bottom of the hill I went for a 20 minute swim in Purity Lake. Air temp was about 80o F (26.6o C) and the water temp was not bad. Of course I had forgotten that how draining lake swimming is. In addition to the physical exertion, the effort of maintaining body temp in water uses a lot of energy. I went to bed early, and slept well.

The physical activity of today was: searching for stuff in the storage unit. I mentioned to my parents that I needed to visit the storage unit to find the bin with my "swap-books" (I got a request for one). They mentioned that there were some things they would like to find as well, so the three of us headed over.

In addition to my "swap-books" bin (which was at the bottom of a stack) I found the box with my games in it (Zombie Fluxx, Race for the Galaxy, ect.) and a box of CDs & DVDs. I am so glad to have my games back. I have missed them soo.

Exercise in the past week
Thursday, Friday and Monday I did a lot of walking (carrying luggage) traveling to and from DucKon. Saturday and Sunday I walked quite a bit at the con.
I did not measure my walking any of these days, but I'm assuming it kept my activity level up.
I did a half hour of Yoga on Wednesday, I went for a mile and a half walk yesterday.

My average callories per day this week were 1502
It ended up so low because I only managed 2 meals a day during the con, and avoided snacking on junk, so once I got home on Monday I decided I needed to have my numbers over 1600 for the rest of the week (1601-1650 range)

On Tuesday night I got very hungry, in spite of my raised calorie number for the day. It took a lot of willpower to not snack.

My weight last week was 174 lbs. (79 kilograms)
My weight today is 173 lbs. (78 kilograms)

Next week I am hoping to increase the walking distance, add more yoga sessions, and possibly go swimming.
maverick_weirdo: (Default)
In the past six days I walked 2 miles 3 times, and 2.5 miles once

My average callories per day this week were 1588

My weight last week was 175 lbs. (79 kilograms)
My weight today is 174 lbs. (79 kilograms)

I am not surprised that my weight loss has slowed down, I could tell my metabolism shifted gears this week with more frequent impulses to eat and resistance to exercise.

It will be interesting to see how I do at Duckon this weekend.

My body has figured out what I am doing, because it was sending me hunger signals more often on Saturday and Sunday (and I have been back up to 1600 calories per day since friday). I'm guessing that this means I'm starting to burn into the long term fat reserves.

I have started adding juggling water bottles while walking to my exercise routine.

I walked 2.5 miles yesterday, I have been hesitating to add distance because home is up on a hill, and I don't want to be worn out before I get home. (Basically my walk is 1st 3rd downhill, 2nd 3rd flat, final 3rd Uphill). I think I might be ready for 3 miles.
maverick_weirdo: (Default)
In the past seven days I walked 2 miles 5 times, twice when it was raining (turns out there are fewer bugs when it is raining)

In spite of going over on calories on Saturday I was able to keep my bring my average calories for the week down to 1612 per day. I appreciate those who were concerned about my cutting down my daily target to 1500. I promise I did not starve myself, I typically just cut out my afternoon snack, or desert.

My weight last week was 177 lbs. (80 kilograms)
My weight today is 175 lbs. (79 kilograms)

Next weeks weigh in will be on Thursday because Friday morning I'll be flying to Duckon

I went to a wake for my great uncle Howard Lawton. He actually passed away several months ago in Florida, but they decided to hold the wake in June so that all the relatives could get together in Rhode Island were he lived most of his life.

It was a nice service, and a chance to see cousins I hadn't seen in 30 years.

I was way over my calories for the day.

I didn't do too bad at the buffet meal after the sevice, I was about 100 calories high on dinner and 100 calories high on desert, which is reasonable, if it weren't for the stop at Burger King on the drive down. Lunch was about 600 calories over what it should have been. My plan to deal with it is to cut my calories per day down to 1500 for the rest of the week to compensate.
maverick_weirdo: (Default)
In the past seven days I walked 2 miles 4 times, 1.5 miles 1 time, and was a paulbearer on Saturday.

I was well under my calories for the week (I wasn't as hungry the days of the wake & funeral)

My 34 waist pants are fitting better, although there is still a bit of "muffintop"

My weight last week was 179 lbs. (81 kilograms)
My weight today is 177 lbs. (80 kilograms)

This means I have lost 25% of my 24 lbs. goal
maverick_weirdo: (Default)
In the past seven days I walked 2 miles 5 times, I swam once, and yesterday I did a half hour of yoga.

In spite of the calorie spike on Monday (230 over the day) I am still about 100 calories under for the week.

My weight last week was 181 lbs. (82 kilograms)
My weight today is 179 lbs. (81 kilograms)
maverick_weirdo: (Default)
I walked on Wed, Thurs, Fri, & Sat
On Sunday I went swimming instead, probably not as active as walking, but the lake was cold.

On Monday I went with my mother to put flowers on family graves in advance of Memorial Day. We went to cemetaries in 5 different towns in Eastern Massachusetts (Milford, Natick, Westwood, West Roxbury, & Avon).

However since we were on the road most of the day, we ate out. I went 230 calories over for the day yesterday, although I was under calories in the previous days, so that I am still on track for my calories per week.

Time to get back on that horse/wagon
maverick_weirdo: (Default)
Since my post on Tuesday I have been limiting myself to 1600 calories a day
The breakdown so far seems to be:
  • Breakfast; 300 calories
  • Lunch; 300 calories
  • Afternoon Snack; 200 calories
  • Dinner; 600 calories
  • Desert; 200 calories
If I go over on calories during the day, then it comes out of my desert.

My prefered methods of exercise are outdoors (walking, biking, swimming). On Wednesday it was drizzling out, but I still walked 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers).
On Thursday I walked 2 miles (3.2 kilometers)
On Friday (today) I walked 2 miles (3.2 kilometers)

This is on top of my normal activity (computer is in the basement, my bedroom is on the second floor.)

My weight on Wednesday was 183 lbs. (83 kilograms)
My weight today is 181 lbs. (82 kilograms)

I realize that the first couple of pounds could just be "water weight" or a cycle fluxuation, but I'm still glad it went down.
maverick_weirdo: (Default)
I am unhappy with my weight.

I know that I weigh less than some of my friends, and I don't judge my friends based on their weight, but I think I weigh more than is healthy for me. Since moving back East I have been been less active, but I am still eating just as much, if not worse.

I have decided to start publicly posting my activity, my eating habits and my statistics to encourage me to make the effort to get off my but. If any of you would like to join me, or just to comment, I would appreciate the company and support.

I am 5'7" tall, my current weight is 183 lbs. which is a BMI of 28.7 "Overweight"
My goal is to get down to 159 lbs. which would be a BMI of 24.9 "Normal"

I am not setting a time limit, but to loose 24 lbs safely should take me at least 3 to 6 months.

My current waist size is 35 inches. My goal is to get back down to 33 inches. This is probably more important to me than the weight.

Wish me luck.
