At my grandfather's house there is one apple tree that my grandmother planted. My grandmother was probably the only one who knew what variety apples it is. The apples from it are only slightly larger than crab apples but they were fully ripe. I was glad to put the apples to good use this year before my grandfather moves.
This week I picked about a dozen apples off of the tree, they had some blemishes but I was able to cut those out. We also had a half dozen Paulared apples I picked up from Mack's Apple Farm. I used a jiffy pie crust, coated the apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg.
It came together well. When it was done filling was not soupy and it tasted good.
