There was a lot of great music at DucKon this year. Unfortunately I slept in and missed the morning concerts, so I didn't get to hear: Riverfolk, Graham Leathers, or Toyboat on stage.

I was able to catch both of Talis' concerts (I mentioned she was fabulous, right? Right.)

Scott Snyder gave a very good concert, I keep forgetting how many of his songs I know.

I caught most of the Roper's concert which was up to their usual standard.

Dandelion Wine was terrific

Lady Mondegreen was in rare form, I got to hear a couple of songs I hadn't heard them do before, I think my favorite in their set was Let me be your song.

And then we get to [livejournal.com profile] filkertom The man had a truly amazing set. He happened to mention that he had turned 50 that weekend, but it didn't seem to slow him down any. I'm not going to go over his whole set. I am going to talk about the phone book stunt.

[livejournal.com profile] janmagic brought forward an ominous looking case, she opened it and pulled out a phone book, which she put on the music stand. She would turn to a random page Tom would sing some of the words on the page (he didn't sing the addresses or numbers), then Jan would flip to another random page. At one point in the middle he sequed into "Jenny (867-5309)" then he went back to the listings. I am so glad I got to witness this and I hope Art got a good recording of it. It deserves to be preserved for postarity.

The filk circles were also wonderful, I've become more relaxed about performing. I'll typically have 1 or 2 songs I'll want to perform sometime over the course of the circle, and if an opportunity to do more comes up fine, if not fine.

I know I mentioned a couple of songs I did in previous posts but here is the complete (as far as I remember) list. In no particular order:
  • House at Pooh Corner (following someone covering Tom's Keep your hands off the bear)

  • I’m going to go back there someday (My dead dog standard)

  • The Kid and the Dog are with Me (I felt like singing it to Tom Jeffers & Sue)

  • The Light-Ship (I think I was following Only one way to go)

  • One by One (Got to use the new material)

  • Red Riding (To see Talis' reaction)

  • Two Left Feet (To see Talis' reaction, for a different reason)
I also sang Idiot! What Were You Thinking! during the 1 am fire alarm

and I read two spoken word pieces:
  • To Be Or Not To Be The Walrus (for Adam Seltzer's reaction, he followed it with his Howl piece. Also with Bonus Batya reaction.)

  • Astronomy Lessons for Slam Poets ('Cause it is fun to read in front of science types)
I enjoyed what other people were doing as well

There was a couple of new faces whose name I don't remember, but they were good, providing such songs as: Hey there Cuthulu TTO Hey there Delilah
A noteworthy song about Batman & The Crow

[livejournal.com profile] batyatoon performed Gabriel Gray's Song and Creatures of Dreams in circle. Each really worked.
[livejournal.com profile] ladymondegreen Pulled out Mario's Lament at the perfect time
I requested Closer to Filk from [livejournal.com profile] almeda and got three mondegreen's for the price of one.
Unfortunately I missed [livejournal.com profile] hsifyppah performing Don't Touch My Belly (Or I'll Kill You)

It was a wonderful weekend and I miss it already.

I didn't end up singing that one at all! I was busy acting out my new one-man play: "Don't touch my belly, or I'll have a nap, which actually I'll do anywa...zzzzzzz"

You nailed Red Riding beautifully, and it's not one I've generally heard other folk do, so that was a treat; and yes, Two Left Feet was hugely entertaining and the memory makes me grin now. I am so very glad I got to meet you and hear you, and I appreciate the help with the schlepping too... I miss everyone. Although I'm glad to be home now too.

I got my own Bonus Batya Reaction when I started singing Along the Grand Canal. Her head snapped around and her eyes were wide. Either she didn't know I could sing like that, or I suddenly grew antlers.

"The Bat And The Crow" is by [livejournal.com profile] saganth & is on his new cd "Stop Me Before I Filk Again!", well worth the $10.

When I was writing the post I almost wrote the phrase "new faces whose name I don't remember, I'm sure filkferengi will remind me later"
