Late is better than never My O.V.F.F Post

[livejournal.com profile] dvtune and I arrived at the Hotel around 4pm Friday. Unfortunately he had caught a sore throat a couple of days before which impaired his ability to sing. We quickly found other filkers to greet. I got a number of compliments on my much shorter haircut.

I finally got to introduce [livejournal.com profile] chaoticgoodchic to [livejournal.com profile] ultimatepsi, they had heard so much about each other the past two years, I was glad of the chance to introduce them. CGC and I checked in and chilled till it was time for the Mad Hatters tea party.

I had a new hat, a striped stocking cap with a “mace” at the end. I decided since I didn’t have anything “silly” enough to wear with it, to dress up nice for contrast. I did get a couple of compliments.

The Pegasus Nominee Concert was great as always. It was amazing to see and hear Black Death, Evil Eyeball, & The Wreck of the Crash of the Easthill Mining Disaster, all on one stage.

At the Friday night circle I got to witness dueling parodies. The Bohnhoffs sang a parody of one of [livejournal.com profile] vixyish’s most popular tunes. Next vixyish got to return the favor by singing a parody of one of the Bohnhoffs’ original songs. I did manage to sing one song Friday night, Two Left Feet Lyrics by Rennie Levine, TTO Like their Feet Have Wings by Gwen Knighton. The song was well received.

Saturday Morning I went to breakfast with CGC, and we were invited to join [livejournal.com profile] almeda. This may have been unfortunate for CGC because when Almeda and I get talking it is often tough for anyone else to get in a word.
After breakfast we went to the main hall to enjoy the concerts. Everyone did great job. It was especially nice getting to hear Anne & Tim Walker in person, after all the nice things I had heard about them from friends in England.

The food at the Pegasus Award Banquet was very good. I got to sit with (going clockwise) chaoticgoodchic, [livejournal.com profile] katyhh, [livejournal.com profile] tarkrai, [livejournal.com profile] libraryraven, [livejournal.com profile] maebh7, dvtune, & ultimatepsi. It was very entertaining, as through the evening people kept bringing katyhh ice cubes. The announcements of who the con guests are over the next year sounded good. Congratulations to those who won this year. Personally I thought all the nominations were deserving.

After the awards was the Interfilk Auction. It was a “shorter” auction this year (there were fewer voice items), but practically every item that went to voice raised over 100 dollars. I didn’t win anything this year, but I ended up not minding too much.

I went to a couple theme circles first. At the “New too…” circle I sang Blowing Winter In by Cat Faber. At the Harmony circle I picked The Light-Ship by Leslie Fish for the group to sing (They sounded great.)
After that it was a tough choice. The main hall had a bunch of great people in it, and the banquet room had a bunch of great people in it. I bounced back and fourth between them, sampling both before going with the main room. A “spooky” theme had developed (ghosts & werewolves, remarkably few zombies). I didn’t think I had anything on theme, but I checked my music again, and found that I had 1. Then Seanan & Vixy did a duet about “Lost Girls” (like Wendy, Alice, & Dorothy). Not only was this a treat to listen to, but it was the perfect opening for my follower; East of my Kind Lyrics by Dave Weingart, TTO Least of my Kind by Cat Faber. I believe I was followed by Three Weird Sisters performing Dumb, Dumb, Dorothy, It was nice to hear Brenda perform it live. After that I settled down for a while, joining in on sing-alongs but otherwise resting my eyes. Urban Tapestry did a good version of In a Gown too Blue. (I’ll admit, I’m still waiting to hear it sung with an authentic British accent.) Many great songs were sung (including the whole room joining in on Falling Free).

At 3:30am [livejournal.com profile] batyatoon declared us survivors of the circle and handed out “Got Filk?” stickers. At 4:15 we decided we were a small enough circle and went to merge with the Banquet room circle. Before the GOHs went to bed, I got to sing I am the Walrus, Lyrics by Michelle Dockery, TTO Horse Tamer’s Daughter by Leslie Fish, with apologies to Lewis Carroll, Then I sat back for a while to “listen intently”. The hotel restaurant opened for breakfast at 6am, so at a little after 6 I sang the penultimate song of the circle, Tapioca by Allegra Sloman.

I managed an hour of sleep and a shower before going to yoga at 10:30am. The yoga class actually helped me wake up. I went to an “improv” workshop run by Syb. I went to some of the Sunday concerts (but unfortunately missed the songwriting contest). Made a quick run on the dealers room, then went to the Jam. I love the Jam. I requested The Lion Sleeps Tonight, which sounded Awesome. Barry did a good job if alternating between vocal songs and guitar songs.

Dinner at the Mongolian Barbeque place was fun as always, I got to introduce new people to the “Singing Atrium”. We did the chorus of, Falling Down on New Jersey on the way in and Good Night Irene on the way out.

The Dead Dog circle was a night to remember; Tom did an insta-filk, Vixy called out Debby Ohi, Tony Fabris was swarmed with zombies on the dying chords of Re:Your Brains. I sang Ophelia (TTO Cecelia) accompanied by dvtune (needs more practice). A bit later I jumped on a space theme with Ship of Stone I think that went well since 2/3 of the circle sang along. About midnight I decided to swansong with my usual I’m Going to Go Back There Someday. As I turned to leave Kathy Mar decided to follow me with Sam’s Song.

Two years ago at my first OVFF I was welcomed as a newcomer. Last year I felt recognized as a filker. This year I felt like people recognized me as a singer of filk.
