A new show

In keeping up with my shows I have been seeing ads on Hulu for "The Booth at the End", so I decided to check it out. Let me tell you this show proves you can do SF/F themes without a special effects budget. This show is about as low budget as you can get, most of the time it is just two people sitting and talking in a booth at a diner.

Yet it is totally compelling. The situations created are unrealistic, but they are handled in such a mundane way that it makes them seem plausible.

The basic premise is that there is a guy who sits in the booth of a diner; people come to him because they want something. Something they don’t think they can achieve on their own. He then consults his notebook, and offers them a deal. He gives them a task, if they perform this task what they want will just happen. They then come back periodically to tell him what progress they are making on their task and he makes notes in the notebook.

Sometimes different people who have deals will encounter each other. Sometimes they have related goals or tasks. Sometimes they have opposing goals or tasks. It is a bit dark, and there are some serious consequences for some of the characters.

So far there are five episodes, and according to the internet they plan on making more. I look forward to it.
