Playing the Borders "Dutch auction"
Aug. 2nd, 2011 12:03 amAbout 13 miles from my grandfather's house is the North Conway, NH, Borders Express. Once I heard that the chain was closing I decided to go in and check out the deals. With my limited income I can't afford to pay full price on books.
On July 22nd the SF/F section was fully stocked and 10% off, still too rich for my blood.
On July 31st the SF/F section was still well stocked and 20% off.
I decided that there were 3 books that were worth picking up at $6.39 each (The Hidden Goddess by M. K. Hobson, Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb, Cursor's Fury by Jim Butcher; Considering that I just finished a Terry Brooks novel I guess I'm in an epic fantasy mood.) There were 3 others that were almost worth getting but I'll wait and see.
Next weekend I am guessing that they will be 25% off (i.e. $5.99 each). If it is down to 30% off ($5.59) I will definately be picking some things up.
Of course there are 2 risks in waiting; 1. Someone else may buy the book(s). 2. The store may sell enough of it's inventory to ship the rest to a nearby store and close.
I am guessing that they will be there till the end of August, and I'm hoping to pick up some real bargins by then. We will see.
