maverick_weirdo Saturday at the con, work before play
Saturday morning I got up a 6:30 am, because I wanted to be sure I would have a chance to shower, change, and have breakfast before I helped out at Reg from 8:30am to 1pm. The hotel breakfast buffet was good and I managed to get in a quick game of EcoFluxx.
Due to the membership cap we were not allowed to sell 1 day passes, so we were only giving out badges to people who were preregged. It seemed to me that we had to turn back between 10 and 20 people. ladymondegreen arrived. Reg were a bit short-handed at 1pm so I stayed till 1:30.
At 2:00pm I went to the Live Journal Panel, but hardly any of the people on my flist were there. I bumped intocupiekake on the way to the LJ meet-n-greet in the consuite (after the panel), and we hung out for a while. At 4:00pm I went to the belly-dancing demo, where I met up with maedbh7. One of her friends was belly-dancing for the first time in public, so she was there for moral-support. The two of us chatted for a bit between dancers.
After that I went back to my room to check my e-mail, and then grabbed a bite to eat at the snack bar. I met up withsaraphina_marie talking with hottippic and hanging out with the Pi-Con/Phoenix Games crew.
I decided to go to the consuite next, and on the way there I happened to meet up with Sabina. I knew she was going to be there (We bought our memberships last year when we were still together) although over the entire weekend this was the only time I saw her. (I guess the hotel wasn’t “that” small.) We didn’t say much, just chatted about the con for a few minutes.
After the consuite I chanced upon the Pi-Con crew again. They were heading to the “Skanks in Space” party, and so I tagged along. I will admit that the people who held the party put a lot of work into the decorations and it was an O.K. party, but the only drinks they had were seltzer or alcohol (which I don’t care for), so I thought I would go down the hall to the drink machine then go back. For some reason the woman at the door decides to hassle me, on my way out. I decided that I had better thing to do than hang around where I wasn’t wanted, so just left to do other things.
Around 9:30 I went to the Filk circlehappyfunpaul and ultimatepsi were there and maedbh7 arrived shortly after me. This was kind of cool for me because ultimatepsi & maedbh7 do not sing very often at filk circles, but both of them were planning to sing something that evening. Plus neither of them has heard me sing before either.
The circle was running “Play, Pick, or Pass”, I decided to start with Catch the tail by the tiger (from Fraggle Rock). Happyfunpaul who was sitting before me in the circle, played Close your Eyes, and in that moment I realized that my choice follows his beautifully. Later I sang my other “muppet” song I’m going to go back there someday.
Maedbh7 “apologized” that her songs were not really “filk” songs, but I think they fit well. The first one was about “bears” kinda. The second song she did that evening suited her perfectly (I wish I could remember it better).
At this point it was 12:30 and I was late for the Midnight Cosmic Encounter game I had signed up for, but ultimatepsi had not sung yet. I asked her if she would be singing soon, she said yes. She sang Flatten the grass which is a fun little song. I thanked her and headed for the game room.
I had missed the first game of CE, but got in on the second. I played 3 games. I lost the first two but won the third. Warrior & Siren was my first combo; Assassin, Disease & Zombie was my second combo; Wrack & Duce was third combo.
I got to bed about 5am.
