Over the weekend I decided to check out some podcasts

It all started when Seanan mentioned meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] maryrobinette who (among her accomplishments as author, voice actress, and puppeteer) does the voicework for the October Daye books.

This reminded me that, while I am waiting for episode 2.14 of Second Shift I have been meaning to check out some other audio fiction.

First I listened to The Empress Sword which is written in a YA style. It started slow, but picked up around episode 4. It currently up to episode 14, unfortunately (as often happens) production has slowed and the story is only 50%-70% complete (I'm guessing because I don't know how many episodes remain.) I am enjoying the story so far. The voice and production quality of the episodes is good.

Next I decided to check out Escape Pod Which has SF short stories in Audio. It appears to post one previously published short story every week. I have been working my way back (with the exception of checking out Chrysalis by Mary Robinette Kowal). I have noticed a number of F.U.M.P. performers reading the stories. As with any collection of short stories some are more to my taste than others, but I haven't heard any poorly written stories yet.

For those who prefer Fantasy short stories there is a sister-site PodCastle For horror they have PseudoPod

I plan on checking out The Mask of Inanna soon.
