So who else is still watching?

FlashForward

This show is rocking my world. The pacing is brilliant. Last week's episode The Gift left me on a personal level saying "No!" while on a literary level saying "Yes!"

Warning Comments may contain spoilers, however please only discuss the T.V. show. I have not read the book and won't till after the first season is over.

There are definitely problems with it, but I have been able to push those aside in my enjoyment of the show. Last week completely threw me for a loop.

I like the series very much, but I think it's about time to come clean on what the rules are. So far, they've been able to get away with having *anything* happen and making it an aspect of the main event, but from the point of view of drama, it needs bounds.

(As in a fantasy world with magic, where there's no story if the magic is unlimited.)

I'm not sure that I agree with you

part of the drama of the story is discovery of the "rules of magic", like the game Myst or Portal. If they just handed us the manual it is a lot less dramatic than "getting a piece of software and being told to figure out how it works by using it".

To clarify, I don't mind things being a mystery as long as I can believe that there actually are rules and the story leads toward discovering them. What bugs me are shows like "Alias" and "Lost" that remind me too much of a kid explaining why he was late getting home from school: "There was a lion blocking the sidewalk...and then a wizard turned the lion into a mouse...but then the spaceship landed...."

There's a Voltaire song that covers the situation. :-)

I Loved Alias (except for the last season) and had no trouble believing in the hidden consistent structure.

I never saw Alias, but felt the same way about Lost... couldn't get into it at all, partly because it felt like they were making it up as they went along rather than discovering an underlying backstory.

Sounds interesting, I haven't regularly watched a show not aimed at preschoolers for a while though...
